The artists wanted to play with the idea of capturing “Summer Vibes” and playing with the idea of “Light within Darkness”. The musicians had ideas of it taking place near a body of water. I pitched them a treatment where we would capture summer at sunset and being surrounded by colorful visuals. I presented trendy design ideas that would surround the artists.
We filmed at 4 different locations in DFW in 3 days filming only at sunset. DP Mark Haynes wanted to capture it in Anamorphic and take advantage of the scenery and fill the frame as much as possible. We filmed with the Red Epic at 6K only using natural light and bounce.
After we finished filming I began the post work and coming up with design elements that would compliment the cinematography. I took screengrabs from the edit and drew over them using Procreate.
For the effects I used mostly shape layers with the help of Trapcode MIR, Pixel Sorter, and alpha mattes. I made my own custom gradient elements and played around with typography.
